In 1720 the Reverend Doctor Thomlinson left money to found a Grammar School to teach children English, Latin, and Greek, to write and cost up accounts, and to learn by heart, and understand the catechism, without demanding payment.
The present school was built as a Secondary Modern School, opened on 2 June 1965, and dedicated by the Bishop.
It is now a Middle School for children of 9 - 13 years old.
It is a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, a partnership between the Church and L.E.A.
The school draws upon a large rural area covering the following First schools Harbottle, Netherton, Thropton and Rothbury First Schools and part of the area served by Swarland First School. Pupils normally transfer at the age of 13+ to the King Edward VI School, Morpeth.
We are part of the Morpeth 'partnership', which includes all First and Middle Schools whose children go eventually to the King Edward VI School.
Mission Statement
“It is our purpose to provide a broad, balanced and relevant education which caters for the whole child in a secure and caring Christian environment.
We provide an education to all learners in order to enable them to achieve their full potential.
As individuals and as a community it is our aim to do our best.”
We aim to:
1. Base the whole life of the school upon Christian principles.
2. Have an open and welcoming school for all pupils providing a safe, caring and stimulating environment where spiritual values and human relationships are nurtured.
3. Pursue excellence in every aspect of school life.
4. Encourage pupils to learn and acquire skills, concepts and positive attitudes, which will help them to develop spiritual values, self-understanding and sensitivity to others in accordance with Christian teaching.
5. Be a focal point for the community in which there is a mutual sharing of expertise and resources for the benefit of all. |
