Headteacher's Message 3.11.17
3rd November 2017
We have had another busy and productive two weeks at Dr Thomlinson Church of England Middle School.
Thank you to all the people who donated food at our Harvest Festival on Thursday, 19th October, 2017. The People’s Kitchen – who received the food – stated:
I am writing to thank you for sending all the food that you collected at your Harvest Festival service to The People’s Kitchen.
This year we are finding that more people than ever are in need of a hot meal and so the gifts that you sent are very important to us. Our store rooms were running low over the summer period, but thanks to generous people like you, they are filling up again. The poor and disadvantaged people who come to us for help will be able to look forward to hot meals during the winter.
When you go home, please will you thank your family and everyone who helped to collect this food. You should be proud to have been able to help so many needy people.”
The week before half-term was busy week for sport. Well done to the Year 5 & 6 children who took part in the Tag Rugby tournament @ Morpeth on 16th October.
Equally well done to all those children who were involved in the three football matches that took place on the playing fields of Dr Thomlinson on the evening of Wednesday, October 18th, we have never had three matches take place at the same time after school! Our Under 11 & Under 13 Boys teams took part as well as our Under 13 Girls football team. The sporting week finished on Thursday, 19th October when our Under 11 and Under 13 Boys teams played away to Chantry. It was a night of awful weather and I was really impressed how both our teams showed true grit in applying themselves to their respective matches.
On October 18th our Year 6 children really enjoyed their trip to Blue Reef Aquarium.
We had a really successful author event on Thursday, November 2nd when Emma Carroll visited the school. Emma was really impressed with our students and I am sue she will have a lot of new fans as a result of this visit.
Friday, November 3rd saw our St Aidan’s Day celebrations. Well done to the House Captains – especially Finlay and Sean – for their work in writing and designing the service.
