HT Message and Dates for your Diary

11th July 2017

Dear Parents & Carers,

We had a wonderful week at Dr Thomlinson Church of England Middle School.

Fortunately the weather was dry for our Sports Day on Monday, July 3rd and we were treated to a great afternoon of sporting success.  Well done to everyone who took part.  It was wonderful to see so many of our pupils taking part.

Thank you to the Friends of Dr Thomlinson Middle School for organising the raffle and refreshments.  Both of these activities were very well supported.  Unfortunately we were unable to announce the overall result on the day but at a “Sports Assembly” on Wednesday, July 5th Aidan House joyfully accepted the House Sports Day trophy.

We had two very successful Transition Days with our 59 new Year 5 students.  The students took part in a range of academic; sporting and pastoral activities.  The new Year 5 intake were ably looked after by our Year 7 buddies and our prospective Year 7 House Captains.  On the Friday morning all our new students took part in a House Sport competition and Bede delightedly accepted the Transition Day House Cup.

During these two Transition Days our present Year 8 pupils visited King Edward VI High School for their transition activities.  I was really pleased that our pupils had a really positive experience.  We will all have a mixture of pride and sadness when we say goodbye to our Year 8s at the Leavers Service on Friday, July 21st.

Staff Changes

In the same way we are both proud and sad to say good bye to our Year 8 students; we will be saying goodbye to Mr Russell at the end of this term.  Mr Russell is taking up the post of Assistant Headteacher at the Northumberland Church of England Academy, Ashington.  We are delighted that Mr Russell’s time at our school has enabled him to move to a promoted post.  He has served the school with great distinction – a fact evidenced by our recent excellent Key Stage Two results - and we all really miss him.

Next year the Maths Department at Dr Thomlinson Middle School will be run by our Maths specialists Mrs Moss and Mrs Ryan.  We are delighted that we have been able to appoint a further Maths Specialist to our school to replace Mr Russell and they will join our very successful Maths team in September.

Take care,

Liam
