Message from the Headteacher 17 March 2017
1st March 2017
On Monday our Young Sports Leaders received instruction in how to deliver tri-golf training. Our leaders will be involved in coaching younger children in golfing skills in the Northumberland School Games on Wednesday, March 22nd.
The Tri-Golf Sport event is just one of a number of exciting events taking place next week.
Dr Thomlinson Middle School children will be involved in our very first Handball event at Ponteland Middle School. I personally really enjoyed watching the Handball at the 2012 London Olympics and I am delighted that our children can be involved in a competitive Handball event of their own. Competing against other schools at Handball is an extension of the work being done in our weekly Handball club every Wednesday lunchtime.
Our netball exploits will continue as our Year 8 girls will be involved in a netball tournament at Richard Coates Middle School on Friday, March 24th.
Unfortunately our football matches against James Calvert Spence had to be postponed last week and we hope to get the fixture played next Thursday (March 23rd).
On March 21st and March 22nd we have our annual Come Dine & Quiz with Me events. On Tuesday parents/carers of 5T are invited and on Wednesday it is the turn of parents/carers of 5H. The events are an opportunity to further explain Accelerated Reader as well as a further chance to sample our wonderful school dinners.
Wednesday, March 22nd sees 7I take part in a Moorland Trip to Falstone Moss near Kielder. The trip will give Year 7 children an opportunity to do some fieldwork that will further their scientific studies.
Next Friday is also Comic Relief Day. The day is a non-uniform day and our Form Reps are busy planning fundraising activities that each of our forms will carry out during that day. Monday, March 20th also sees our school DANCE-ATHON event. From 12 pm – 1:30pm our whole school are invited to dance for charity. Our pupils have already been invited to suggest songs to add to our playlist and, during lunch, we will all be dancing to these tunes for charity. Children have been told to come to school in school uniform however they have the option to accessorize their school uniform during the DANCE-ATHON. I have already purchased my Day-Glo leg warmers and we are all looking forward to everybody dancing for Comic Relief. Obviously the important thing is that people between now and Monday get sponsors for their dancing exploits and a letter and sponsorship form is enclosed with this email
