Message from the Headteacher 29.9.17

29th September 2017

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had another busy and productive week at Dr Thomlinson Church of England Middle School this week.  On Wednesday our boys U11 & U13 Football teams played away against James Calvert Spence.  Our U11s drew 1-1 and our U13s lost narrowly 2-0.

On Thursday our U11’s Boys team played at home on Northumberland Church of England Academy.  They lost 5-2.  However our Girls U13 football team played and beat an NCEA team 5-2 – heroically coming back from a 2-0 deficit!

Thursday also saw the school celebrate National Poetry Day.  The theme was Freedom and the whole school celebrated poetry from 9am – 12pm taking part in a range of activities.

Today we celebrated the Macmillan Coffee morning.  It was wonderful to see so many Year 5 parents attend.  We raised £231 for this important fund raising event.

Next week sees our school competing in the NSA Cross-Country event at Gateshead Stadium on Tuesday, October 3rd.  On Thursday our Girls football team are taking part in a football tournament at Chantry Middle School.  On the same day we have our first Rugby event of the academic year as our Boys rugby team will be taking part in an event at Kingston Park.

Please can all students taking part in Rugby and Football matches next week please remember they need a gum shield to play Rugby and shin pads to play football.

A Challenge for interested Dr Thomlinson Mathematicians

The Maths department are delighted to announce that we have secured a place at the regional team maths challenge final in the spring of 2018. The successful group of 4 Year 8 students will travel to Heddon on the Wall to compete against other schools in a bid to win a place at the National finals next summer.

We are also entering both the Primary Mathematics Challenge in November (for Years 5 and 6) and the Junior Maths Challenge in April next year (for Years 7 and 8).

In order to help interested pupils even further developing their skills in solving challenging Maths problems, Mrs Moss will be running a lunchtime problem solving club. This will be open to the whole school with an initial introductory meeting during lunchtime in Room One on Wednesday 4thOctober.
