Message from the Headteacher April 28th
28th April 2017
Welcome back to Summer Term at Dr Thomlinson Middle School. I hope you have had a lovely Easter.
We had a very successful end to our Easter term. March 31st saw our school host a very successful Jazz and Steel Pan Concert with performances from the King Edward Community Jazz Band and the KEVI Steel Pan Band. Thanks to all those who attended. We hope to make the evening an annual event for future years.
On April 3rd we were very pleased to welcome Mark Tanner, our newly appointed Bishop of Berwick to our school. He was very complimentary of the school, speaking especially highly of our House Captains who gave the Bishop an initial tour of our school.
All those who attended the School Disco on April 5th had a great time. Thanks to the Friends of Dr Thomlinson Middle School for their help.
Friday, April 7th saw our Easter Service. Thanks very much to the Parents and Carers who attended. I was very impressed with the efforts of our Choir; Orchestra and Readers.
Our Easter term got off to a winning start on April 26th when our Under 13 girls Rugby enjoyed great success. 15 Yr 7&8 girls attended the U13's Girls Rugby Festival at Alnwick Rugby Club on Wednesday with 70 girls forming teams from Lindisfarne, Dukes and Dr Thomlinson's. Dr Thomlinson’s enjoyed a clean sweep of very convincing victories in every match played. Reports of the tournament spoke of great support work, crunching tackles, a lot of turnover ball and an excellent spread of tries right across the squad. After defeating Dukes and Lindisfarne Middle Schools we played an All Star team of the best of the two other middle schools and Dr Thomlinson’s rounded off the afternoon by defeating this team of talents four tries to two.
On Thursday our boys’ football teams and girls’ netball teams played Newminster Middle School. Well done to the girls’ netball teams who once again enjoyed victories. Our boys’ football teams played very well and were unlucky in defeat. Well done to all who took part.
Today saw students from all Year groups taking part in a Dance Workshop. The children taking part will form a Dr Thomlinson Dance troupe who will perform at the Rugby League Magic Weekend at St James Park on May 20th. The dance instructor was very impressed with the efforts our Dance troupe. We are the biggest group taking part in the Rugby League extravaganza and she said she was very impressed with the speed at we picked up our routine. Well done to all who were involved.
Next week sees 7I visit Steng Moss for their rearranged Science field trip. Please remember that students need a packed lunch and waterproofs and sturdy outdoor shoes.
Friday, May 5th is a non-uniform day for all the school. The £1 donation will go towards funding the Year 8 yearbook. There will also be a cake stall and a range of excellent delicacies will be on sale.
